Together for Independence

The Philip J. Rock Center and School is more than a facility; it is an extended family to parents and their children who live with both hearing and vision disabilities. Our devoted staff accompany the kids throughout the day, constantly working toward the goal of helping each student live as independently as possible according to their personal abilities. The shared vision of "Together for Independence" makes this a reality.

The Rock is getting a new facility!

Keep checking in! We are currently working with the Capital Development Board and LCM Architects on the Design Development for our new facility. We have a design for the exterior of the building that has our staff anxious to move in!

Executive Director's message Bonnie Jordan
Welcome back to the Rock! We have a great team assembled this year to take care of your children! In addition to our amazing current staff, we are adding a job coach, and are looking forward to weekly outings in the community of Glen Ellyn. After school, our students are out in the community almost every evening. The students really enjoy the Morton Arboretum, and our partnership with them is still growing. In addition, we are forming partnerships with Brookfield Zoo and the Shedd Aquarium. Our Adaptive PE Teacher, Danielle Blocker, has also started a Special Olympics team at the Rock! We are starting the year with 9 students and have room for more. Please reach out to me if you would like to have your child join our team.

This is also the year of construction! We are going out to bid in September. With any luck, we will break ground no later than Spring of 2024. (I am learning how to be patient.) This is where community partnerships will be helpful. Living with construction will be an adventure-especially without a playground! Be sure to contact me if you have any suggestions for activities!

We are looking forward to a productive year. The staff at the Rock follow 3 rules:
  1. Work hard and have fun doing it!
  2. We do what is right for kids.
  3. We support our teammates.
Wishing you all a fall filled with fun and love,
Bonnie Jordan signature
